Welcome to the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group Website

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the

Cochrane Schizophrenia Group

The Cochrane Schizophrenia Group (CSzG) was formed in 1994 and its editorial base is located in the city of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. The CSzG is affiliated with the University of Nottingham’s School of Medicine, and within that, the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology and Institute of Mental Health. Our work involves contributions from all over the world, with our editors based in Australia, China, Finland, Germany, India, Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom. We have over 800 reviewers from all over the world and their systematic reviews are published on this site.

The Cochrane Schizophrenia Group is concerned with the evaluation of the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people with non-affective, functional, psychotic illnesses.

The treatment of people with schizophrenia is a major focus of the CSzG, but it is also concerned with the care of those suffering from unspecified ‘chronic/severe’ mental illnesses and non-organic, schizophrenia-like conditions under the Group’s umbrella. These include:

  • The evaluation of the care received by people with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia compounded depression, substance misuse or specific problematic behaviours such as fire setting or aggression.
  • Evaluating the management of problems associated with interventions for schizophrenia or chronic/severe mental illness, such as the adverse effects of medications prescribed.
  • Collating the best evidence of the effects of approaches and interventions for people suffering from serious mental illnesses and their carers.
  • We have undertaken reviews of diagnostic tests relevant to people with schizophrenia.

The information published on this website is relevant to clinicians, researchers and informational professionals interested in systematic reviews. The site also contains plain language summaries of each published review which may be of interest to people with serious mental illness and their carers.

The information on the CSzG website is not meant to replace the advice of a health professional.

We are currently updating the CSzG website and some sections of the site will be temporarily unavailable. Please contact Tracey Roberts (tracey.roberts@nottingham.ac.uk) if you have any queries in the meantime.
