The Cochrane Schizophrenia Group editorial base has been funded by National Health Systems, Universities, Departments of Health, Industry, charities and an Insurance Company. Each source of funding carries with it a potential conflict of interest. By far the greatest funder of the editorial base has been the UK's National Health System.
Because it is seen as a potent source of potential bias, funding from industry is discussed. There has been debate whether funding should be accepted from the pharmaceutical industry. It is agreed that funding from industry that is given to people to fund specific reviews is unlikely to be appropriate. Currently, donations are accepted and used as long as they are not connected to any one review and are used for the support of the overall functioning of the Group. In addition such funding is sought and acquired from multiple sources in order to collect conflict of interests from multiple sources rather than to have them focused from one donor.
