It is with great pleasure that the Cochrane Gynaecological and Orphan Cancer Group announces the formation of a Neuro-oncology Satellite based in Bath, UK.

This new Satellite is headed by Dr Robin Grant, Consultant Neurologist and Mr Mike Hart, Neurosurgeon who are both experienced Cochrane systematic reviewers and have been involved with the Group for over a decade as Associate Editors.

Europe votes for clinical trial transparency

On 2 April members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new law that will require all drug clinical trials in Europe to be registered and their results reported in a public database. This is a significant win for the AllTrials campaign, for which Cochrane is a principal supporter and organiser.

This new law comes into effect in 2016 and as Ben Goldacre, co-founder of the AllTrials campaign, said:

New Director for the Cochrane Nursing Care Field

Many of you may have heard Prof Alan Pearson AM Director of the Cochrane Nursing Care Field (CNCF) retired at the very end of last year.

We are pleased to now to formally let you know that Assoc Prof Craig Lockwood has replaced Alan as the new Field Director.

Craig is the Editor of the CNCF Journal supplement; is a Cochrane Reviewer via the Renal CRG; and is an experienced nurse and leader.

We would like to thank Alan for his enormous contribution to the Field and look forward to working with Craig in the future.

Over 170 Cochrane Reviews and Protocols are open access!

On 1 February 2014, Cochrane had its first anniversary of going open access. ‘Open access’ is a way of publishing scholarly research that makes it available unrestricted online. Open access for Cochrane means that authors can choose to make their Cochrane Review or Protocol open access in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) immediately upon publication (gold open access), while authors of all other reviews and protocols will see them go free to view 12 months after publication (green open access).
